Real replies from founders and executives, names and companies redacted

Replies inside 48 hours from the co-founder of a nuclear reactor startup, the CEO of an American drone manufacturer, and the COO of a $61B defense technology company.

The story

Nobody knew my name.

I'm a sophomore on an ROTC scholarship. No network in defense. No family connections. No warm intros. When I wanted a fall internship at the companies I actually cared about, I had exactly one channel: a stranger's inbox.

So I wrote. Forty-five cold emails to defense and nuclear startups. Every one researched. Every one specific. Every one unmistakably written by a human.

Within 48 hours, eight founders and executives wrote back. The co-founder of a nuclear reactor startup. The CEO of an American drone manufacturer. The COO of a $61B defense technology company. People whose one hour is worth more than my semester.

It was not luck. It was a repeatable method: a first line only I could write, proof of a human behind the send button, and an ask a busy person can say yes to in ten seconds.

The method fits in a playbook you can read in an hour. Here it is.

Nice to meet you Amrik. Love your background. We aren't really looking for remote work but maybe we can find a seat for you. Are you in the Bay area now?

Forty-five emails sent to defense and nuclear startups. Eight replies from founders and executives inside 48 hours, and when one address bounced, the same pitch on LinkedIn got a YC-backed founder offering to meet in person. Zero connections used, because I had none. Every reply came from a cold inbox and a first line no template could produce.

The lineage

Forward beats polite. It always has.

Steve Jobs, age 12, looked up HP co-founder Bill Hewlett in the phone book and called him at home to ask for spare parts. He got the parts, and a summer job at HP.

Ryan Graves answered a stranger's tweet looking for help with a startup with "heres a tip. email me :)" and became employee number one at Uber.

Tristan Walker emailed Foursquare's CEO eight times before getting an answer. Asked to bring 30 partnership ideas, he showed up with 300. He left as VP of Business Development.

None of them waited for an introduction, and none of them pretended to be somebody they weren't. That's the entire bet inside this playbook: direct, specific, unmistakably human. It's the style that got my replies, and it's the style the templates teach.

What's inside

The playbook is the container. The reply is the product.

Everything in here exists to get a busy stranger to stop, read, and write back. The intro. The internship. The mentor. That's what you're buying.

The unfakeable one-line hook framework

Busy people delete templates on sight. This teaches you to open with a line only you could write, built from your actual life, so it never smells like one.

The "I promise I'm a human" section

Inboxes are drowning in AI-written outreach. Learn to prove there's a real person behind your email in one paragraph. Right now, being verifiably human is an unfair advantage.

Finding anyone's email address

The pattern method plus verification, so your best writing lands in the right inbox instead of a guessed one that bounces.

The full swipe file

Fill-in-the-blank templates for internships, mentors, intros, and first jobs. Built to carry your details, so no two people who buy this ever send the same email.

The annotated teardown DELUXE

Eight real emails from my campaign, marked up line by line. What each sentence is doing, why it earned attention, and what I would sharpen next time. Plus a bonus chapter: the pitch that bounced, went to LinkedIn, and got a YC-backed founder asking to meet.

The outreach tracker DELUXE

Who you emailed, when to follow up, where each thread stands. Follow-ups are where threads come back to life, and this makes sure you never drop one.

The hook that started all of this

"In three years I'll be a commissioned Army officer. I want to build what I'll deploy with."

That's mine. Yours will be different, because it has to be. The framework shows you how to find it.

About me

Who's Amrik?

A Amrik

I'm 19. I'm a sophomore at Penn, the University of Pennsylvania, on an Army ROTC scholarship, which means in three years I commission as an Army officer. I play varsity sprint football, I've shadowed the CFO's office at one of the biggest AI companies in the world, and this fall I start as a fellow at a Silicon Valley venture fund.

I also co-founded a healthcare software startup, where I run business development. Cold outreach is literally my job. I do it every week to keep our company alive, and I did it for myself when I wanted a fall internship in defense.

I wrote Cold Open because every cold email guide I could find was written by sales guys selling software to other sales guys. Nothing spoke to someone like me: young, unknown, and asking a stranger for a shot.

So I wrote the one I needed. Then I tested it on some of the busiest inboxes in the country before asking anyone to pay for it.

Questions

FAQ

Does this actually work?

It worked for me, and the receipts are on this page: forty-five emails, eight replies from founders and executives inside 48 hours. But you're buying a method, not a miracle. You still have to research the person, write the email, and hit send. Results depend on what you send and who you send it to. No guarantees, from me or from anyone honest.

What if I'm shy?

Then email is your channel. No cold calls, no networking events, no walking up to strangers at a career fair. You get to think before you speak, edit before you send, and show up as your sharpest written self. Email is the introvert's home turf.

Isn't cold email just spam?

Spam is untargeted volume: one message blasted at a thousand people who never mattered to the sender. This is the opposite. One researched, honest, specific email to one person you genuinely want to hear from. Nothing in this playbook involves mass sending, fake identities, or tricks. If anything, you'll send fewer emails than before, and far better ones.

I'm in high school, is this for me?

Yes. The templates adapt to whatever you're asking for: internships, mentorship, a summer gig, fifteen minutes of advice. And being young is an asset when you're honest about it. Busy people remember the high schooler who wrote a sharp, specific email, because almost nobody expects one.

What does the 1-on-1 actually include?

It comes with every paid tier, Core and Deluxe both. After you buy, reply to your receipt email with the draft of your cold email. I read it personally and send back a marked-up version: what to cut, where the hook goes, how to size the ask. One round, within 72 hours. It's the same pass I run on my own emails before they go out, and it's covered by the reply-or-refund guarantee.

What's the refund policy?

30 days, full refund, no forms, no interrogation. Email contact@coldopen.pro and I'll send your money back. You keep the files. On top of that, every paid tier carries the reply-or-refund guarantee: if the email we sharpen together in your 1-on-1 doesn't earn a reply within 30 days of sending, the same full refund applies.
